Will a detoxing diet help you lose fat or just water weight?
If i go on a detoxing diet, i want to lose fat. So i will be working out for atleast an hour a day too. Detoxing diets seems like it only helps you lose water weight.
water maker answers:
If you want to lose fat, why detox? Detox doesn’t work, never worked, is not possible, and never has been possible. You can lose fat simply by eating a healthy diet and cutting portions to create a caloric deficit. The detox myth is not about fat, it’s about some silly idea that you can purify your body.
There is no diet which will cause your body to get rid of toxins, heavy metals, poisonous by-products from smoking, drugs, etc. And cleanses for the purpose of weight loss don’t work because they can only eliminate water and small amounts of waste which the body will replace very quickly.
Check out the following references because you’ve probably been getting your information from unreliable sources.
“‘Cleansing’ diets may be worthless”

“A day on a detox diet program probably won’t hurt you, but there’s little point in following these restrictive diets – and they can do far more harm than good, says Michelle May, MD,”

“Detox diets are a waste of time and money, say scientists”
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article784402.ece
“The human body can defend itself very
well against most environmental insults and the effects of occasional indulgence. If you’re generally healthy, stick to giving your body what it needs to maintain its own detox system— a healthful diet, adequate fluid intake, regular exercise, sufficient sleep, and all recommended medical check-ups. Don’t waste your money…follow a healthy, balanced lifestyle instead.”

You can find your own links debunking the detox diets, master cleanses, and other such nonsense by Googling “detox diet myth” or searching USA.gov for your appropriate key words.
The way to detox is to stop ingesting toxins and let your body cleanse itself naturally. If you have, for example, THC in your blood from smoking pot, there is no food, no flush, no purge, no cleanse that will make it go away. Your body will metabolize and excrete it naturally given sufficient time. The best diet for all normal adults hasn’t changed. It is still a varied, balanced, nutritious, and properly apportioned diet of high quality foods. Forget detox. If you want to burn fat, do this.
Eat a diet of varied, wholesome, and high quality foods such that your daily caloric intake is about 500 calories less than your daily caloric burn while keeping your macronutrient ratios at about 55/25/20 (%calories from carbs/fats/protein) and not doing anything to defeat the foregoing plan such as taking supplements, drinking alcohol, abusing drugs, using cleanses or emetics, etc. That’s it. It’s that simple.
Here’s the only two websites you need to do that.
1. This site has a wide range of information about foods, fat, diets, and exercise with calculators, diet tips, food facts, etc. —> http://www.freedieting.com/
2. This website is a great way to track calories, macronutrients, water, and exercise. It also does all the math for you and makes it super easy to look up foods to enter into your online food intake diary. There’s a discussion forum where you can exchange info with thousands of other dieters. —>http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

Maria asks…
How to know if the weight you gain is muscle?
I am currently 5’7 about 126 lbs and I have been working out (cardio & weightlifting) for about a month now and about 2 weeks ago I was 124 lbs. I gained about a pound a week, I eat very healthy and workout 5-6 times a week. I am thinking that the 2 pounds gained is muscle? Is there anyway else to know other then a body fat percentage tester? (I will be purchasing one soon)
&P.S. The weight isn’t water weight, I always only weigh myself in the mourning before consuming any liquids or food/
Thank you!

You have to use a body fat calculator. Here is an example of one:

You have to use a body fat caliper, and measure yourself at various sites on your body. You then refer to the graph to calculate your body fat percentage.

Laura asks…
What diet do people usually follow after a crash diet?
I heard about this soup diet that makes you lose 10 pounds but it’s mostly water weight. And it’s worked for a lot of people. What diet is reccommended after a crash diet like this? Or any crash diet for that matter?
Thanks in advance

I follow my own personal diet of calorie restriction. I try not to eat over 110 grams of carbs a day (though on days when I get a really intense workout I go over), I keep the amount of calories from fat at or below 40 % and protein is just whatever i happen to get for the day (though I normally get over 40 grams of protein a day.)
I eat an amount of calories that I determine from my activity level and my current weight.
Heres a link to calculate yours if youd like

I would consider my diet one of the healthiest ones out there and with a little know how and some diligence you can make the most from it!

Mandy asks…
What is the least amount of calories I can eat without slowing my metabolism down?
I’ve heard it’s about 1200..is that true?
I’m 5’6”, medium framed, 15, 131.
I just want to lsoe 3 pounds I gained on vacation.
I know it’s not much..but still..
I’ve been cutting down on what I eat and doubling my exercise for the past 3 weeks…and nothing’s changed so far.
Before..if I did that, I’d lose 2-3 pounds in one week.
It was probably water weight or just that my weight was fluctuating.
But what’s the least I can eat without my metabolism slowing?
Thanks =]
water maker answers:
Yes your right for women it should be 1200-1500 calories a day.
But you can calculate your own by height, weight, and age online. Just put “caloric intake calculator” in the search engine.
Good Luck!

Carol asks…
How to test your body fat?
I have gained some weight during the holidays. I want to loose body fat. I do martial arts and do have a lot of muscle. When loosing weight, I want to make sure I loose fat and not muscle and water weight. I used to have a scale that would measure your body fat, but it was very unreliable and didn’t measure accurately. Is there a way that I can measure my body fat through a home test that is reliable and accurate?

Google a bmi or body fat calculator
